 January 2008

This month has been particularly special for us as we were so lucky as to officially tie the knot!!!! Unfortunately to the detriment of the allotment as we have not had alot of time to dedicate to it. However all was in quite good order down on the plot, following our rotorvations and  preparations at the end of the growing season last year.

Towards the end of the month we popped down to do some light work and were able to pay some attention to the fruit patch, in particular a decent weeding and relocation of some of our strawberry plants to thier new bed to the left of the main fruit area.

We also saw the first sign that the year was moving away form its winteryness, in particular the snowdrops on our plot beggining to bloom, a very welcome sight.

The weather that day was very cold, so mcuh so that despite it being lunchtime, all the water troffs remained frozen and only a small dry fire in our new brazier was available to try and defrost our fingers towards the end of the day.

We planted some Garlic and created a new permanent herb patch to house or perennial and annual plants for flavouring dishes.

We were also able to tend to some of our flowering bulbs which seemed to be enjoying multiplying themselves n the good soil and needed splitting and re-planting before the spring took hold.

We were also able to continue our harvests in the form of leeks, parsnips and brussels, with hopes for some purple sprouting broccoli in the not too distant future.

The remainder of the month was spent gathering our seeds and resources ready or the busy springtime and sorting out a new plating plan. Click the link below to view what lies in store for our plot in 2008.
